It has been said our Old No. 7 pack is named after a bourbon from Tennessee— or a mule, owned by ‘Mad Jack’, one of Grizzly Adams’ few human friends… all we’re gonna say for sure is that our Old No. 7 Canoe Pack is handy to have along in canoe country (or wherever you use it) because it’s durable, a great size, and filled with features!  Not to be mistaken for a day pack, the Old No. 7 is big. It’s a canoe pack, meant to contain a full (but well-chosen) camping kit: tent, sleeping bag, cook pot, rain gear, first aid, skivvies, saw, a pair of socks, and maybe a bit more. It all oughtta fit in a pack this size. If it won’t fit, you might not really need it. The Old No. 7, like all our Frost River canoe packs, is handmade from waxed canvas. The proprietary wax from Fairfield Textiles makes the cotton canvas weather and water-resistant. It also helps protect against abrasion and wear. It is very tough stuff. The backstraps are padded and faced with premium deerhide buckskin. There is a leather cinch strap with brass roller buckle at the top of the pack for compression. Solid brass rings line the sides for more compression or storing gear. At the bottom of the side panel (the gusset) is a small slip pocket for map, permit, water bottle or wet socks. The flap straps on the lid (overbuilt to hold the heft of the pack when it’s lifted to and from the canoe) are riveted and sewn for longevity and lasting durability. The bottom of the pack gets double canvas. A tumpline and waist belt are standard equipment, and both are removable and replaceable. We aim to deliver the best right from the start. The Old No. 7, like all our reliable softgoods, is built by hand at Frost River in Duluth, Minnesota and guaranteed for life. Carry traditions with a traditional canoe pack that’s built by hand on the doorstep to Minnesota’s canoe country by the artisan craftspersons at Frost River in Duluth, MN.

One of my favorite packs
5 Stars

It is a great in between pack for me from my day pack to my week-long trip pack. Has room for lots of extras and great pockets and clips to keep things separated. The buckskin shoulder straps and pads feel wonderful. I do worry about them getting dirty but it's held up so far.
